Bag knitting pattern: knit market bag. The Aran Shopper Bag is a pattern to create your own eco-friendly market bag, ideal for both grocery shopping, as a beach bag or as a casual bag for a relaxed day out.

The bag comes in two practical sizes, and is easy to knit while containing techniques to keep things interesting for the knitter! The bottom corners are made sturdier by working German short rows, while a cable travels diagonally from the left corner to become the bag handle. The bag is worked in the round, with the cable handles being worked back and forth. This pattern would be suitable for an intermediate knitter.

The sample bags were knit in hardwearing jute, but a similar sturdy plant-based yarn should work well for a durable bag. Cotton worked very well for test knitters; linen would also be suitable.

The bags are sized as follows, but can be customised in height, and in handle length.
Small: 25cm/10” (width) x 23cm/9” (height) with handle around 13cm/5” in height
Large: 30cm/12” (width) x 38cm/15” (height) with handle around 30cm/12” in height

Requirements for this knit:
Large size = 176m/192 yds yarn
Small size = 100m/109 yds yarn
Both sizes:
US9/5.5mm circular needles
Tapestry needle
Cable needle
2 x stitch markers
